Finca San Juan de la Isla
About Finca San Juan de la Isla
Finca San Juan de la Isla is a lodge on the east side of Ometepe Island, in Lake Nicaragua, built around a hacienda house from the 19th century. Rooms include a lakefront cabin and converted horse stables, with breakfast included in the standard rooms. Guests reach the island by ferry, then take a dirt road to the lodge.
Finca San Juan de la Isla grew around a hacienda house that dates to the 19th century, on land that has been a farm since that time. It stands on the east side of Ometepe, the island with two volcanoes in Lake Nicaragua, between the town of Altagracia and Santo Domingo beach. The last stretch is a dirt road, which a car with decent ground clearance handles best.
Rooms come in five styles. The Double & Twin Bedroom measures 20 m2, sleeps up to three adults on one full and one twin bed, and has air conditioning and a shared porch facing the volcano. The Standard Cabin is 40 m2, with a queen bed and a terrace set up with hammocks and rocking chairs, overlooking green grounds. The Single lake front Cabin sits closer to the water. Breakfast is included in the Double & Twin Bedroom and the Standard Cabin.
The fifth style is the stable rooms. These occupy the old horse stables beside the hacienda house, restored from the ground up. Every room has a cotton hammock hung at the spot where riders once tied their animals.
